Instead of featuring one of Tony Mill’s Nature Notes this month, we are turning the table and would like to tell you more about Tony himself. As Spring Island’s Education Director, Tony teaches the Master Naturalist Program, produces educational programs for local schools, leads field trips and teaches workshops. He has been working in the field of environmental education for over two decades with emphasis on southeastern animals and plants. Before joining Spring Island in 2007, Tony ran the University of Georgia’s environmental program at Savannah River Ecology Lab for 20.
You will also find Tony on his local television series “Coastal Kingdom” as he guides you on a journey through some of the richest and most diverse habitats of the South Carolina LowCountry. He has also written numerous newspaper columns and articles on local plants and animals for the popular media and co-wrote the book Lizards and Crocodilians of the Southeast (UGA press June 2009). Although Tony spends a major portion of his time teaching and writing, he continues his extensive field study with plants and animals of the southeast.
