A COLLECTIVE SPIRIT

“Wouldn’t it be nice to share Spring Island with just a few friends?”

THE IDEA BEHIND THE ISLAND

The above early sentiment shared between Jim Chaffin and wife Betsy became the philosophy of Spring Island as Chaffin/Light Associates crafted their vision for the community. While simple, this thought can be profoundly felt and seen today on Spring Island, not only in the deliberate gentle development, but in every Member, employee and visitor.

There is a collective spirit of appreciation that blows down the winding dirt roads to greet all who come to Spring Island. It is at once restorative and comforting, inspiring and profound. “Legacy employees” are easy to come by here as many of them have worked on the Island for 20 years or more. Members are dear friends and share active lives together as they care for and cultivate the culture of Spring Island. And always at the center of it all is the last of the great private Southern sea islands preserved in perpetuity in its natural state.

Spring Island’s core values attract those who come not to be seen, but to behold; not to make a name, but to have an impact; to seekers of the special wisdom which only nature, history and community can impart. However reverent life is at Spring Island, it is anything but passive. Members interact across a myriad of platforms from golf and art, to equestrian and farming amongst others. If there is an interest, Spring Island will support it and nurture it holistically. With all this quiet enjoyment, the possibilities are nearly endless and the inspiration pours forth from a deep well of natural grace.

“The future of Spring Island must be approached not only as an opportunity, but as an obligation. The cherished sense of special place with which a dozen generations have looked upon this land, must never be allowed to die.”
